I love photography of reels. So during many years a collection of photographs came into existence.
It seemed an idea to me to offer you an insight in some aspects of reel design that might be of interest
to everybody who loves fishing, rods, reels, design and technology. The photo gallery is featuring
the following subjects:
Anne Miek den Braven at work. She does all the top quality free hand engravings on The Beaverkill series and
the Salt Water series (see next photographs).

How my reel design began
In 1967 when I was studying at the Academy of Industrial Design in the city of Eindhoven, the Netherlands,
I designed and made this fly reel. It has an interesting drag system: by deforming the Delrin frame you
will stop most trout... This reel was the starting point for the design of the A series... The ideas
behind this reel (function and simplicity) are still incorporated in the L.H. Design philososophy.
My first fishing reel
Every saturday morning I cleaned up the mess in a machine shop. In 1957 one guilder (about fifty euro cent)
seemed alot of money to me... Six guilders made the deal and my pike fishing possibillities were greatly
improved... This reel was (and is) treasured and has a prominent place in my collection.
